Here's a layout drawing I did of one of Johns Kaspar story doodles...

This one is not perfectly satisfying but more to come...

    don't copy my mistake lines (near the inside of the back of his body

    make him organic and solid

    put weight on his feet

  2. Hmm, John might be less picky then me on this one but I think the mistake was that the head angle is wrong to start. John's is flatter but yours dips down more which throws off the shoulder and arm which then widens the face too much. In John's you can see the bear is FAT where yours looks like a block. Think the forehead can come down a bit, the bottom lip come up, the 'neck fat' and shoulder come up halfway on the ear, which should move the arm in the right spot by anatomical terms.

    Really though I'm nit picking for the sake of nit picking and I don't think I could bring something that close to the original if I tried without tracing it exactly...and I stopped doing that in grade school.
